Negative Coping Skills
61In my human growth and development class I am learning so much about the human body and how the human brain work. This is one of the things I have learned in this class. Negative coping skills adolescents use to deal with their daily struggle in life.
Substance abuse- Repeated harmful use of a substance. Adolescents turn to drugs and alcohol in order to ease the pain and stress they have in their daily lives.
Anorexia Nervosa- eating disorder characterized by self starvation. People with anorexia have a distorted body image. They are normally good students but may be withdrawn or depressed.
Bulimia nervosa- Eating disorder in which a person regularly eats huge quantities of food and then purges the body by laxatives, induced vomiting, fasting, or excessive exercise. People with bulimia are usually not overweight, but they tend to have low self esteem and may become overwhelmed with shame, self-concept, and depression.
Suicide-young people who consider or attempt suicide tend to have histories of emotional illness. They are more likely to have trouble in school, have trouble socializing, and be a victim of violence.
Death by vehicle and firearms- vehicle collisions are the leading cause of death among U.S. teenagers. Studies show that collisions are more fatal when there is a passenger in the car. Since they feel an urge to impress their peers, they drive more recklessly.
I hope this information is useful. also this, in my opinion is some interesting facts.
